The Snake River Sporting Club has an excellent golf course designed by Tom Weiskopf. But, as the names implies, that's not the only sporting activity to be found.
"Initially members might want to by a house becuase of the golf course, but they end up loving all the outdoor pursuits,"says Lori Cochran, director of marketing and sales and the Snake River Sporting Club. To that end, key members of the Snake River Staff are an outdoor pursuits director and a naturalist.
The warm-weather pursuits include fly fishing, hiking, whitewater rafting, rock climbing, biking, horseback riding, scenic river trips, and naturalist trips. And, of course, in the winter there are skiing and snow shoeing.
Snake River Sporting Club has gone to great lengths to make skiing extremely accessible. There is a heli pad on the club property from which members can be whisked wherever they want to go to find ski adventured. The club has also built a Mountain Lodge, the first private ski-in/ski-out lodge in Teton Village at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain, just 50 yards from the Tram.
"Our members can pull up and valley park, and the ski valets are bringing out their skis so they can go right to the tram," says Cochran
Nor is the golf is to be forgotten. Of the course that opened in 2006, Weiskopf says, "If this isn't the best piece of property that i have worked on in the U.S. its tied for first! What makes it such a special piece of property are the Snake River, the canyon, the varieties of large, mature trees on site, and the meadow and wetland areas."
Only seven of the 18 holes have homesite adjacent to them. The 554- acre property is surrounded by national forests, with the Snake River running alongside, making for a beautiful scene . There are 130 homesites in all, with about half released at this time. Lots begin at $1.25 million and owners build their own homes after approval by an architectural review board.
Club membership will be capped at 390, with non-resident members joining the property owners. The initiation fee is $150,000 for owner and non-owners alike.
The 25,000-square-foot Members' Lodge is scheduled for completing later this summer and will be home to fine dinning as well as the golf club house facilities. Also on the way are a fitness barn, spa, equestrian facilities, and an environmental learning center and the Trout House, which will not only be headquarters of the outdoor pursuits director but also casual meeting place for families- a place where they can discuss what their next adventure will be.
